A Little Stink in The Air

Now that I have made the chemical free lifestyle commitment, there are entire aisles at the store that I no longer have a need for. Not only do I not have a need, the products are just unhealthy.

Yes, scented candles and air fresheners - not a girl's best friend! Most of these products are laced with chemicals that are dispersing through your home and lungs with the promise of fresh, clean smelling air and relaxation. Some of these toxins released into your home can make your eyes burn and even create negative respiratory reactions.

The fragrance or parfum ingredient in these products is one ingredient we should stay away from in all items. Just the word "fragrance" on a product label encompasses thousands of possible ingredients that do not have to be itemized on the label because it's proprietary information. Think of it this way when reading labels; one word, "fragrance" can equate to over 300 ingredients that are not disclosed on the packaging.

The Think Dirty app, which I'll do a post about, is a useful tool when shopping. Scan your item and it will give you a detailed and itemized report of what's dirty and what's not. The more you know, the better you can do!

Most of us love pleasant smelling aromas, including myself. That's why diffusing essential oils is such a healthy alternative to air fresheners and scented candles. You achieve stimulating aromas that have therapeutic benefits while keeping your home free of harmful pollutants. Diffusers come in all shapes, sizes and styles to match your decor.

Here's to clean air and healthy homes!
